I store a lot of music on flash drives but when I initiated this question I was in fact referring to my Toshiba external hard drive, silly mistake. The majority of the folders on the external drive are photos and that would help explain the problem.

From what you have said I gather that would make it difficult for the computer to customize it's behaviour. As we previously discussed when I right click on the music folders it has difficulty deciding what type of folder it is and gives me different options for the same folders.

I've found some times if I "play around" right clicking and opening and shutting folders music I will eventually get the option I require to copy the files to WMP play list.
