To get text out of image files, Apache Tika can make automatic use of Tesseract. Note: On Windows servers, if Apache Tika doesn't detect Tesseract, make sure you add the path of tesseract.

Set the full path of the saved tika-config. To see if Apache Tika is able to properly extract text contents from files, right-click a file, select the Control panel option under More options. You will find in there troubleshooting tools which will help you find out if the text extraction for the file works and what is the result.

You only need to set the URL of the host. If the server is password protected, include the credentials inside the URL :. Click the Test server to make sure FileRun can connect to it.

If everything is in order you should see the Elasticsearch cluster name and list of nodes. Save the changes made to the settings in FileRun's control panel. For files with text, their contents are indexed to allow you to search for words within the files. Apps you install may also add their own information to the index to speed up searching.

For example, Outlook adds all emails synced to your machine to the index by default and uses the index for searching within the app. Many of the built-in apps on your PC use the index in some way. File Explorer, Photos, and Groove all use it to access and track changes to your files.

Microsoft Edge uses it to provide browser history results in the address bar. Outlook uses it to search your email. Cortana uses it to provide faster search results from across your PC. Many apps in the Microsoft Store also depend on the index to provide up-to-date search results for your files and other content.

Disabling indexing will result in these apps either running slower or not working at all, depending on how heavily they rely on it. Your Windows 10 PC is constantly tracking changes to files and updating the index with the latest information.

To do this, it opens recently changed files, looks at the changes, and stores the new information in the index. All data gathered from indexing is stored locally on your PC. None of it is sent to any other computer or to Microsoft. By default, you'll see that not too many folders are added.

On my computer, only a few folders and their subfolders are indexed. To add a folder to the index, click on the Modify button then select the folder you'd like to be indexed. In my example below, I'd like to index my Dropbox folder. To do this, I simply select the checkbox next to the Dropbox folder and it immediately appears in the Summary. I then click OK and Windows 10 will immediately start indexing the new folder.

You will notice the "items indexed" increment and you will also be notified that Indexing speed is reduced to user activity.
